Patient and Family Bill of Rights

1. Understanding Your Rights: You have the right to understand and exercise all your rights as a patient with EMAHS. We will provide you with a written copy of these rights upon your initial contact with us. If you ever find these rights unclear, please do not hesitate to contact our staff for assistance, including interpretation in another language if needed.
2. Respect and Dignity: We are committed to providing you with impartial care, treating you with dignity and respect, and valuing your unique background, values, and religious beliefs. 4. Immediate Assistance: In emergencies, you have the right to receive immediate medical care and transportation services without delay.
5. Clear Communication: You will always know the names of the healthcare professionals responsible for your care. We encourage open communication with your healthcare team regarding your diagnosis, prescribed treatments, prognosis, and any follow-up care instructions.

Informed Decision-Making: You have the right to receive information in a clear and understandable manner about your diagnosis, proposed treatments, any changes in your health status, alternative treatments, potential benefits and risks of proposed treatments, the likelihood of successful treatment, possible issues related to recovery, and the expected cost of care.
7. Language Accessibility: If language is a barrier to understanding your care, we will provide interpretation services to ensure you comprehend the details of your treatment and transportation.
8. Consent for Treatment: You have the right to give or withhold your written General Consent for treatment. You can also choose whether to give your informed consent before any surgical or high-risk procedures, anaesthesia, or the use of blood and its products.
9. Decision-Making Involvement: We encourage you to actively participate in your care decisions, and we value your input in planning and implementing treatment, to the extent you desire.
10. Privacy and Confidentiality: We respect your need for privacy during clinical interviews, examinations, procedures, and transportation services. The confidentiality of your personal information will be protected to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11. Choice of Healthcare Providers: You may choose your treating healthcare providers whenever possible. If you have a genuine reason, you also have the right to reject a treating healthcare provider.
12. Refusal of Treatment: You have the right to refuse treatment, and we will inform you of the medical consequences of such a decision. This right extends to families and guardians when patients are unable to exercise it themselves.
13. Protection from Unwanted Presence: You have the right to refuse examination or observation by individuals not directly responsible for your care. Your permission is required for their presence during case discussions, consultations, examinations, and treatments.
14. Protection from Harm: We are committed to protecting you from physical, verbal, and psychological harm during your care and transportation with EMAHS.
15. Organ and Tissue Donation: You have the right to receive information about organ and tissue donation if you wish to support this cause.
16. Transfer Information: Before transferring you to another healthcare facility, we will fully explain the reasons for the transfer and provide information about all reasonable alternatives. The receiving institution must accept the transfer before it takes place.

18. Pain Management and Education: You have the right to appropriate pain assessment and management. We will also provide education to you and your family about pain management.

20. Access to Medical Records and Billing: You can obtain your medical records and a copy of medical test results from our Medical Records Section, subject to a reasonable fee. You also have the right to request an itemized bill and an explanation of all charges, whether paid by you or another source.
21. Discharge Instructions/Plans: You have the right to receive written Discharge Instructions/Plans from our nursing team, highlighting treatment, follow-up, and medical instructions for self-care.
22. Seeking a Second Opinion: You have the right to seek a second opinion about your care without fear of compromising your relationship with us. If necessary, you may be required to pay for such services.
23. Empowering Families and Guardians to Protect the Rights of Vulnerable Individuals: Rights of children, the elderly, and patients who are unable to exercise their own rights will be entrusted to their families or guardians.
